IBIS Koblenz

The IBIS Hotels of the Accor Hotels are in the two star category. I choose Ibis Hotels if none of my favourite chains is available or the rates are to high. So in Koblenz, where I am only in the need of a bed to sleep and perhaps a working desk.
(As side note The big hotel corporations had left the local hotel market; there was a Scandic, which became a Holiday-Inn for a few years before it became a Mercure.)

The hotel could be easily reached from the main station, you just walk the street on the left side (there is a house built over the street) and reach the hotel after 800 metres. If you arrive by car, you just have to follow the signs for the hotel (“Hotelleitsystem”). The five floor hotel was built in the late 80ies and has recently undergoing a major renovation and refurbishing of the rooms.

You enter the hotel and standing right in the small lobby with the check in on the left side and the bar / breakfast area on the ride side. Some lounge chairs are for guests waiting.

The floors could be reached by (only) one elevator. If the hotel is fully booked, you have to wait sometimes, but you could take the stairs.

The hotel I built like a “L”. Especially in summer the rooms facing the street are sometimes noisy, as there is a shop (Videothek) with a lot of traffic (cars parking in second row, people talking) in the night. The hotel is not air conditioned.

A Continental Breakfast is served in buffet style in the ground floor with cold items like rolls, bread, cheese, jam / marmalade and cereals; not hot items are available. I usually skip breakfast, it is 9,00 EUR and it is not worth the money in my opinion.

There is no business centre available, but the staff will send letters by Telefax or copy things for you. Overall, staff was very friendly and helpful to me (and not only because I am a frequent guest in this hotel)

There is no need in reporting every single stay, as the most stays are the same like the previous stays. Also there is only one room category in this hotel, a room with a grand-lit, which is used for single or double occupancy.

You enter the room and in a very small part, where you could store you belongings. This part is very small and you have not much place to hang clothes or place you suitcase. After a second door you are in the room. The bathroom with shower cabin, sunk and toilet is in the part facing the floor, while bed and working desk is in front of the window. The bathroom is small, there are no bathroom amenities, the shower gel is placed in the shower cabin and beside the sunk. Two big mirrors, one behind the sunk and one at the bathroom door are in the bathroom, but there is no hairdryer. If you need one, you could get it at check-in.

The bed is okay, it as French bed with two pillows. Two bedside tables with a reading lamp.

A large working desk with a chair is in front of the window with a LAN connection and a power outlet. A small television is place, so you can easily watch tv from the bed.

W-Lan is offered in the lobby and in the rooms (powered by Vodafone).

Turndown service is not offered, but you would not expect it in an IBIS hotel.

It is just a room to sleep and perhaps do some work. I have to admit, that I got smaller working desks in high end hotels than in this hotel. If you do not need a minibar, pool and fitness facilities and just a place to sleep, this is you choice of hotel in Koblenz, especially as the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Prices vary depending on the time you stay there.
