Hilton München City

The Munich City Hilton is located at Rosenheimer Platz and easy to reach from the airport or the main station by S-Bahn trains. The station is underneath the hotel and it is possible to enter the hotel from the station, just follow the signs to “Gasteig” and you cannot miss it. It is possible to walk to Deutsche Museum and also to “Marienplatz”.

There is of course a street entrance with a small driveway if you have to unload your car or arrive by taxi.

The hotel building is shaped like an “H” and has only five floors and does not look that big if you are standing in front of it, but there are rooms around two courtyards in the back of the hotel not visible from the street. These rooms tend to be quieter than those facing the street.

The hotel as a lobby with lounge chairs and sofas close to the check in area while on the other side of the lobby is the “Metropolis Bar” and the “Caffè Cino”. Both are open to the lobby unlike the restaurant, which is also on the left.
The check in desk is huge and has five places to check in and out guests including a separate desk for Hilton HHonors members.

The executive lounge is located on the fifth floor and has two terraces, which are accessible and where you could smoke or enjoying the sun. The lounge is not that big given the size of the hotel and often crowded, especially in the peak time in the morning and during hors d’oeuvres service in the evening. Beverages are available all day but alcoholic beverage only in the evening while the hors d’oeuvres are served. Wine seems to be served later in the evening as well, but this was not always the case during my visits.

The gym is small and located on the fourth floor with a stepper, treadmills, cardiovascular equipment and machined for body training. Towels and water are available. The room is quite often full and given the size of the hotel way too small. It is open 24/7 and if you can avoid the usual peak times, you could be lucky and nobody is there.

Board and Meeting room are located on the ground floor.

The breakfast buffet is quite good with cold and warm dishes and several dishes prepared by a cooking station like omelet, pancakes, French toast. Scrambled eggs, hashed potatoes, sausages (incl. “Weißwürste”) are available on the buffet like cold meat, cheese, jam, cereals, fruits and bread, rolls and pastries. Coffee will be brought by the attentive staff while tea is available from the samowar. Juices are brought by staff or available for self service on the buffet.

I arrived quite late around 21:00 and despite the late hour the check in was quite busy and the two agents working there had a lot to do. So I had to wait a couple of minutes before it was my turn. There was a separate counter for Hilton HHonors Guest, but that was not staffed this Friday evening.

Check In was fast and I was told I was upgraded to a Club Floor due to my Gold Status. I was addressed by name and I had only to provide a credit card and sign the receipt. I was explained how to reach my room and where the gym was located. I asked about breakfast and was told, I could have breakfast down in the restaurant, but since my rate does not include breakfast have to pay an additional charge. I did not ask how much the amount was.

I have to add that club floor meant in this hotel, that one receives a room either on the fourth or the fifth floor and got access to the club lounge on the fifth floor but the hotel does not have a real separate club floor on the highest floor unlike the sister hotel Munich Pak Hilton.

The room is a classic hotel room. You enter the room through the usual small hallway with wardrobe and entrance to the bathroom. The wardrobe also features the ironing board and the safe. There is sufficient room to store all belongings during a business or leisure trip.

The bathroom is average with bath, sink and a toilet. The big mirror behind the sunk is heated, an additional vanity mirror was available. Bathroom amenities were the usual selection of lotion, body shower gel, shampoo and conditioner by Crabtree & Evelyne. Three big, middle and small towels were available, so more than enough for a single person and they were changed daily.  The water pressure was okay and so were shower head and curtain. However the water temperature was not very constant and changed from cold to hot. The hotel is aware of the problem but was so far unable to solve it.

A bathrobe and slippers were provided.

The room has had a king bed with the bedside table with two lamps on each side, a regular bedside light lamp and a smaller LED reading lamp. On the other side right next are a sideboard with minibar and tea and coffee facilities. The prices of the minibar were average (e.g. water 4.50 EUR, red wine 11.50 EUR, beer 5.20 EUR and peanuts 4.30).

The TV is placed on the sideboard as well.
The working desk is close to the window and large enough to work on it.
A lounge chair / ottoman with a small round table and a lamp were placed in front of the window, which could be opened.

The interior uses a soft brown / beige color and has the same type of furniture as the Hilton Düsseldorf.

The lounge is good, but can get a bit crowded during peak time. The staff generally keeps up with putting out fresh foods. Alcoholic beverage was limited to the evening hors d’oeuvres service.
Breakfast in the lounge was quite good with scrambled eggs, in addition to a wide variety of cold foods, including yogurt, cheese, cereal, fruit, breads and pastries.

I like the location with good connection to public transportation and also close to the city centre. The hotel does not offer a pool and the gym is small, but staff is usually friendly. The service level remains on the same level, which is an advantage. You do not have to fight for your benefits, but as Gold you could not expect to get executive lounge access during a midweek stay. On the other hand the variety and offering downstairs in the restaurant is bigger. The main reason for me to stay there is the good connection to either airport or main station. If I want to have pool and sauna I usually go with the Westin or the Sheraton Arrabellapark.
