Hilton Zurich Airport

The Hilton Zurich Airport is located just two kilometers from Zurich airport near the motorway to the airport. The hotel has a shuttle service to the airport every half an hour or so. If you arrive by car, you see the hotel from the motorway and it is clearly singed from the exit of the motorway. Unfortunately the access to public transportation is not the best. This means it is not that easy to reach downtown Zurich without connecting via hotel shuttle at Zurich airport to the trains for downtown Zurich. Therefore it is not the best place for a trip to Zurich, if you want to visit downtown Zurich and spend there the evening. You could walk from Zurich airport to the hotel in app. 20 minutes and it is safe to do so, but not the thing one likes to do in the evening.

The hotel is built at a small hill, therefore you see only two storey if you arrive, but there are some room below the lobby, which is in the fourth floor. The hotel has two wings with the lobby in the middle. The interior of the hotel is okay. It is nothing special, the interior design is neither modern nor old fashioned or dated. It is somehow basic. The lobby is a bit small, there are no lounge chairs available, you have to sit in the bar area and due to the noise of arriving and leaving guests it might be not the nicest place to relax in the afternoon. But a bit later, when the most guest have checked in, it becomes a bit quieter and then it is okay.

You enter the hotel through a revolving door and the check in desks are on the right side. There are only two desks available, so you eventually have to wait a few minutes during peak time or when a shuttle from the airport has arrived. Also in this part of the hotel are the “Market Place Restaurant” and the “Lobby Bar”. Breakfast is served in the “Market Place Restaurant” starting at 6.00 in the morning.

The small gym is on the ground floor, unfortunately there is no window in this room. The equipment not brand new but okay. Seize of the gym might be a bit of the small side, if the hotel is pretty full, but otherwise it is okay. A short but marked jogging track is available around the hotel area.

There are meeting rooms available as well as a business center, which is stuffed with the usual things one expect in a Hilton Hotel.

The Executive Level is on the right wing in the two top floors with the lounge on the fifth floor. It is just at the beginning of the floor, so everybody has to pass the lounge to reach his room. Several lounge chairs, regular chairs and tables are available, a flat screen TV and a basic internet terminal. A lounge agent is the most time on duty, so you are able to check out at this desk rather than in the lobby. In the morning breakfast an extended continental breakfast is served in the lounge with cereals, scrambled eggs with bacon, cheese, marmalade and jam, bread, rolls, pastries and fres fruit as well as yoghurt. In the evening hors d’oeuvres are served starting around 17:30 with alcoholic beverage. The selection of food is okay. The style of the lounge is not really modern, more like the lobby basic, but okay. There a slight chances the lounge will be renovated in 2009, but that was not confirmed during my last stay.

I arrived by shuttle from the airport in the late afternoon and was checked in quite fast. Everything was prepared and I was told I was upgraded to the executive floor due to my Hilton HHonors Gold Status. I was asked if I needed a shuttle the next morning and it was booked. The way to my room was explained, but not explanation of the location of the gym.

The room I have had during this stay was a non renovated room.
The interior style of the room is like a typical hotel room. You enter the room and found yourself in the small entrance corridor with the built in closet on the one and the bathroom on the other side. The bathroom was small, dark and really dated. It had a toilet, a sink and a bath. Bathroom amenities were by Crabtree & Evelyne and towels available for two persons.

The room was of usual size, perhaps a bit of the bigger than average side. The decoration and interior style was again not modern. A bit like the style of the 80ies but the quality was okay. The room had the bed on the left side along with two bedside tables with reading lamps and a phone. A lounge chair was standing in front of the sound proofed window, which could not be opened by the guest. On the wall opposite to the bed was the working desk with another telephone, a reading lamp and a sideboard with TV. The minibar along with tea and coffee facilities were placed near the entrance corridor. Everything was a single piece of furniture, what looks somehow a bit disorderly.

The room was okay, perhaps a bit dated and the mattress of the bed too soft for my taste, but otherwise I was fine with the room.

Breakfast in the lounge was okay, it was a bit crowded, but I was able to get a table. The stuff was attentive and empty dishes were cleared quite fast.

Check out the next morning was also fast. I was asked if I have had a pleasant stay and if everything was okay. I was told the hotel will undergo renovation of the executive rooms in the first quarter of 2008.

I arrived by car late in the evening. Again, I was checked in quite fast and everything was prepared. I was upgraded to the executive floor due to my Hilton HHonors Gold Status.

This time I got a renovated room on the fourth floor.

The Bathroom was new and the interior styled in a different way than in the non renovated room. While the location of the bath was not changed, sink and toilet changed places. And I have the impression, that the size of the bathroom became even smaller, than before. But since my room was on the other end of the floor, I am not sure if this is only my impression or a matter of fact. Amenities were by Crabtree & Evelyne and towels available for two persons. The bathroom mirror is heated and the hairdryer is placed on the board rather than a wall mounted one.

The room was also newly decorated. The decoration and interior style was modern ad remembered me a bit of the Dusseldorf Hilton.
The room had the bed on the left side along with two bedside tables with reading lamps and a phone. The mattress was okay and it seems they have changed them, too. A lounge chair was standing in front of the sound proofed window.

On the wall opposite to the bed was the working desk with another telephone, a reading lamp and a sideboard with a flat screen TV. The minibar along with tea and coffee facilities were placed near the entrance corridor but not on a separate board like in the non-renovated rooms.

I like the newly renovated room, they have done a great job and after comparing this with the non renovated room, one for sure noticed the need of the renovation even more if you compare with the non renovated room.

Check out the next morning was also fast. I chatted a bit with the agent and was told, that the remaining room will be renovated in the next 12 month. They hope having renovated the executive lounge in 2009, too, since the request for a renovation of the executive lounge in 2007 was denied by Hilton International.
