Express by Holiday Inn Düsseldorf North

The hotel is a quite new (opening mid 2004) and has small and functional rooms like any other Express by Holiday-Inn Hotel. The classification is Three-Star.

The staff was young and very friendly and check-in took less than a minute. The hotel is built like an “L” and has five floors.

There is no restaurant in the hotel, but you can have some food delivered by some restaurant in the area; the flyers of the Delivering Service are available at the Check-In. The bar area is right hand side of the reception desk, followed by the seating are where breakfast is served in the morning.

The hotel could be reached by S-Bahn easily; the nearest stop is Düsseldorf Derendorf (7 minutes by every S-Bahn to Hauptbahnhof / Main Station) and same travel time to Flughafen (but less frequency). You reach the hotel by the pedestrian exit in direction airport and than turn left. You reach the hotel by a walk in less than five minutes.

The area is not very nice; you look to a McDonald’s restaurant and the Smart Centre of Düsseldorf. The Renaissance Hotel is not far away, but the is not much entertainment in the evening, but as you could reach the Altstadt of Düsseldorf with S-Bahn and Subway in less than 15 minutes this should be okay. S-Bahn in the evening is no problem in Düsseldorf.

I had a room at the front of the hotel. The telephone has a data port and there was a small working desk and a couch, which I think could be used as a bed. Tea and coffee facilities were available. The room itself was nice; especially the painting over the bed was nice.

The bathroom is normal; it had a shower cabin with a curtain and a toilette. The sunk was in the corner, but this time there was more space (in comparison to the Frankfurt Airport)

The hairdryer was placed in the room, which I dislike.

The desk was large and it was easy to work there with a notebook. The lamp was a little bit dark, I would have preferred a lamp with more brightness, especially as the whole room was quite dark (why on earth has the average hotel room no lamp at the ceiling?).

All in all a nice hotel, if you only need a bed for the night. As the room rate of 49.00 EUR is less than the rate at the IBIS Hotels (excluding breakfast), I prefer this hotel.
