Holiday Inn Conference Center City South

The Holiday-Inn City South Conference Center is some sort of landmark, as it is a very high building. The hotel was built in the 70’ies and has 25 floors. A garage is available for 12.50 EUR / day.
The hotels could be reached by public transportation easily, both from the airport and the central station. From the airport, one could take a train to “Südbahnhof” and travel from there by bus or take the S-Bahn S 8 or S 9 to “Konstablerwache” and change to the bus 61. From the central station one could take every S-Bahn to “Konstablerwache” or take one of the S-Bahn, which stop at “Lokalbahnhof” and change to bus.

The hotel looks outside a little bit run down, but the interior is in better shape. The lobby is quite small, especially if one think about the 435 rooms of this hotel. There are several desks to check in and the staff is quite fast – they are really used to handle a great number of guests.

Downstairs, just beside the reception desk and the cashier, is the entrance to the gym and the sauna, steam-bath and Jacuzzi. The fitness facilities are old but usable. There is a changing room and towels are available, but the whole are is somehow small and especially in winter, this are could become crowded. The best time to use the fitness facilities is the early afternoon or the late evening. This area is open daily from 6.30 to 22.30 h.

Also located in the basement is the “Biergarten” restaurant, where one can get local food, snacks and pizzas. It is also possible to order carry away and eat on the room. Just opposite the entrance is a small lobby café, where one could get something to drink in the evening or some small dishes during the day. On the second floor are the restaurant “Le Chef”, which is open to public in the evening and the “Kaffeemühle”, which is open in the morning and noon; here is also served breakfast as small American Buffet Breakfast.

A business center is available.

One reaches the rooms by five elevators. There are three elevators facing the reception desk with a sign 2 – 9 floor and another sign for the other two elevators to floors 9 – 25. Confusing, as all elevators stop at every floor, but from floor 9 – 24 there is a stop only every second floor as you have to use a staircase to reach the following floor as the space in front of the elevator is in form of a gallery.

The floors are very dark and still look as if they were never redecorated in the time since the hotel was built.

There are three sorts of rooms, Standard, Deluxe and Executive and three suites. I normally book a Deluxe and was a every time I booked a Deluxe upgrade to a Executive, sometimes, if I am able to get a good rate I book an Executive, especially I know, I will stay in my room for some time.

I was there for the Frankfurt Stammtisch. Check in was fast and efficient, it tool less than a minute if this was a prepaid rate.

After entering the rooms one has to put the key card in the central switch for the lights. In the floor is the entry to the bathroom with bath, sunk and toilet. The bathrooms amenities were from “Jaguar” this time. The bath was in good condition and renovated newly.

The room is big with a small balcony; you have a magnificent view to the skyline of Frankfurt. In the room was a double with a separate lounge chair with table. A big cupboard with safe, the safe was big enough to store a laptop but without power outlet. A working desk was placed opposite the bed with an extra table, which could be pulled out. Tea and coffee facilities are placed on the working desk and a socket was also available. On the other side was the TV screen with the minibar below the TV. The W-LAN Signal (powered by Swissport) was strong and if necessary one could use the hotspot.

On the table was placed the Executive Room Gift, two bottles of water, one bottle of Grapefruit juice and some Haribo confect.

A turndown service was offered.

Breakfast was served in the Restaurant “Kaffeemühle” and “Le Chef”, as the hotel was really full. This time, is was an extended Continental buffet breakfast. It contains of scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon, ham, cheese, marmalade and jam, several sorts of bread and rolls and some pastries. Cereals and fruit salad are also available.

I stayed there only for one night and booked the room very late, so the room rate was this time higher than usual.

Check in was efficient and I was told, I got an upgrade as no Non-smoking Deluxe was available. It seems the hotel again was fully booked.

After entering the rooms one has to put the key card in the central switch for the lights. In the floor is the entry to the bathroom with bath, sunk, toilet and radio. The label of the bathrooms amenities was “Pierre Cardin”. The bath was in the old style and not renovated yet, but in good condition.

The room is big with a small balcony; the view to the skyline of Frankfurt was not a good as in the other room. This time, I travelled without Laptop, so nothing to say about W-LAN, but I guess it was there.

On the table was placed the Executive Room Gift, two bottles of water, one bottle of Grapefruit juice and some Haribo confect.

A turndown service was offered.

Breakfast was only served in the Restaurant “Kaffeemühle” this time. It was an American buffet breakfast. It contains of scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon, potatoes, ham, cheese, marmalade and jam, several sorts of bread and rolls and some pastries. Cereals and fruit salad are also available.

I requested a late check out, as I had a bad cold and some trouble with my circulation. My request for an aspirin was handled fast and I good it five minutes later by housekeeping. Housekeeping asked twice if everything was okay and if I need further assistance, which was a nice touch. I never expected such service from this hotel, especially as it is this big, but it seems that the check in noticed that I was ill and pointed this out.

Arrival Date: 8 July 2005
Departure Date: 10 July 2005
Room type booked: Executive
Rate Plan: June Online Sale (Special Rate 10th Anniversary Online Booking)

Room Rate: 49.00 EUR

I stayed there only for two nights and booked the room during the promotion 10 years Online Sale for a rate of 49.00 EUR without breakfast.

Check in was again efficient, but this time the staff was answering a call but finished it after some seconds; the first time I noticed in this hotel. To me, it seems they have special people for answering calls as I have not noticed in the past that check-in staff had to answer calls.

After entering the rooms one has to put the key card in the central switch for the lights. This time I got a corner room with a small balcony facing the Frankfurt skyline. The most magnificent view I ever had in this hotel.

In the floor is the entry to the bathroom with bath, sunk and toilet. The label of the bathrooms amenities was again “Pierre Cardin”. This bathroom was again renovated but a little bit smaller than in the other rooms.

The room was bigger than the other rooms. I was built in L shape with the cupboard in on corner of the room. A double bed and TV screen was on a small board on the right side of the wall, while the working desk was placed opposite the bed. Tea and coffee facilities are placed on the working desk and a socket was also available, but no pull out table this time, the space to work was big enough, so no reason to worry.

On the table aside the lounge chair was placed the Executive Room Gift, two bottles of water, one bottle of Grapefruit juice and some Haribo confect.

A turndown service was offered, this time no confect from Haribo, it was another label I forgot.

I have not booked breakfast this time, so no comment about it.

I did not request a late check out, as I had brunch at the Le Meridien and accompanied a friend afterwards and therefore stored my luggage.
