Home Flights Hotels Diary

Time to sum up my experiences with the various airlines on this trip: United disappointed again, especially the agent at SFO. Not only were the staff at the desk understaffed resulting in long lines, they were not really able to handle the delayed flight. It would have made sense to pull the plane over from the other terminal, at least trying to get a bigger bus instead of shuttling us over in small buses. Positive, the flight ORD – YVR was okay and so was the flight DFW – ORD, but nothing really special.

Air Canada tried their best to rebook passenger on the canceled flight while fellow passengers could be as much annoying as a canceled flight. Do we really have to behave like Mr. DYKWIA at Vancouver’s Transborder Maple Leaf Lounge?

Lufthansa’s Longhaus flight in Business was okay, but seat blocking seems not to work as most other passenger had a free seat next to themselves but one of the few Senators on board had not. Food was okay and the service was quite good. There was no personal welcome by the purser, but since the rest of the crew were quite good, I can live with it. As mentioned in earlier report, I do not need a personal greeting by the purser just for my ego, I prefer a general good crew. Their hardproduct is okay for a day flight, but as we all know not on top if it comes to a night flight, where one wants to sleep.

British Airways was a surprise. The crew was friendly and the service good, attentive and friendly. The food surprisingly good and the wine list as good as the one of Lufthansa, Swiss or any other European Airline. The seat was the biggest surprise, Flying backwards is something new, the seat seems to be narrow and small but the numbers say something different. The impression comes from the divider between the seats, but the width of the seat is more or less the same than on Lufthansa. There is also a lack of storage space except the drawer. The best of course is the seat, which is fully flat and offers enough space to sleep.

I will fly British Airways again and see how they compare if one flies them on a regular basis and not just once or twice.
