Conclusion

This was my second trip in World Traveller Plus after my flight to Montreal in a nearly empty WTP cabin in early December 2014. As I had already heard from colleagues, the chances for an upgrade from World Traveller Plus to Club World holding at least mid-tier status with oneworld are quite good. And thus, it was nice to get an operational upgrade on the flight from London to Dallas into Club World. Given that this is an older product and the initial design goes back a long time, the seat is still nice and offers a flat bed, though the competitors offer better products and especially more space. The latter is to me the most disadvantage comparing it with Lufthansa and American Airlines. Regarding food and service, the offerings are still not the best and I think cost cutting has added to this impression. But if you have low expectations it might help to not be disappointed.

I was not disappointed by Main Cabin Select on American Airlines, which offers significantly more legroom and of course it is nice to be able to reserve a seat in this cabin without need to pay for it compared to United Airlines. I would rate Main Cabin Select of AA superior to EconomyPlus of United Airlines.

World Traveller Plus on my way back to London was good. Food and Service were no disappointment and service friendly and effective. I especially liked that service started in different rows, so that one row had not the disadvantage to be always served last. The seat pitch was good given that I again had a seat in the first row. Recline and seat pitch are okay, though the entertainment system and the seat in general show its age. In so far, Lufthansa and LOT have the newer product and thus the better seat. But still, British Airways offers a good product and I would also book them again, especially as they have very reasonable priced fares to the US.

The only down is again the transfer in Heathrow, which is still chaotic and not very organized. But, you can be lucky. While transferring to the US resulted in a longer wait, I passed the transfer counters quickly on my back to Germany, so that I was even able to squeeze a shower into the transit time. But as mentioning in previous reports, the lounge situation in London has room for improvement with the lounges being overcrowded and already in the need for a refurbishment in some areas.
