There are also now information available how the combined programm will look like. You can read about it on the information page.

Promotion

Starwood Preferred Guest / Marriott Rewards

April 15, 2018 to July 20, 2018

Marriott and SPG launched their first common promotion. You earn 250 Points per night with SPG and 750 Points per night with Marriott. Given that the ration between both programs is 1:3, that means you earn the same amount of points. There is a caveat, the bonus only kicks in with your third qualifying night. You do not earn anything prior to this three nights and also the first three nights have to be qualifying rates, i.e. not cash and points rates, other ineligible rates or - most important -stays at non participating hotels. And you have to stay three nights at each chain as both chains are still treated separately.
We consider this as a really weak promotion compared with previous ones. On the other hand, this is the last promotion with both programms runs separately and in so far a complicated promotion might be problematic in regard to the merger of both programs.

For Starwood:
Registration is open on
https://www.spgpromos.com/morenights . A list of not participating hotels could be found here.

For Marriott
Regisration is open on the
promotion landing page. It seems, that all hotels are participating at this promotion.

Buy Points Promotion
June 15, 2018 to July 20, 2018

SPG offers a discount of 35% if you buy more than 5,000 SPG Points prior to July 20, 2018.
SPG points are 17.50 USD per 500 Starpoints; buyable are up to 30,000 SPG points anually. There is no discount the more miles you buy.
The current promotion brings 5,000 SPG points down to 113.75 USD.
This might be the last possibility to buy points, at least to the old conditions.

In this regard it is worth to highlight that you get a bonus of 5,000 Points if you transfert those to an airline frequent flyer program. This is also for some frequent flyer programs the only way to "buy points" like e.g. All Nippon Airways or Lufthansa.

Starwood partners with Points.com if it comes to buying points.
