Hilton Fort Lauderdale Airport

The Hilton Fort Lauderdale is located close to Fort Lauderdale Hollywood Airport at the Interstate I 95 and app. 30 - 40 minutes by car from Miami airport.
The Hotel is a L shaped eight stories building with a separate garden wing building and an adjacent garden. You enter the hotel through a sliding door and stand right in the lobby with a small fountain. On the left side is the check in desk and the liquid bar and the main lobby with some chairs. The check in desk is big enough to manage a bigger number of people checking in and out the same time. The lobby is two floors high with a staircase to the second floor where the meeting rooms are located.

On the right side is the restaurant Ocean Blu, which serves breakfast as well as lunch and dinner.

The free form pool is in the tropically landscaped garden with sun chairs around it and a separate Jacuzzi. The pool is open from 06:00 to 22:00 while the Jacuzzi should be used between 08:00 and 20:00. Towels are available as well as sunshades.

The gym is in a separate room and could be reached from the hotel by a covered walkway. The gym is big with modern equipment, not the newest machines, but still very good equipment like treadmills, steppers, cardiovascular equipment and a changing room. It is open 24 hours a day. A parking garage is behind the hotel for 12.95 USD / day with unlimited in- and out permission.

Breakfast is served in the Ocean Blu restaurant from 06:00 in the morning until 10:30. It offers a full buffet with cold items like cheese and sausages, fruits like pineapple, melons, sliced oranges and grapefruit, bagels, muffins, cereals, toast and also hot items like potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages. Omelettes and fried eggs prepared freshly on request at the buffet. Tea and coffee are available and served by staff like orange and grapefruit juice.

I arrived in the hotel around 19:50 and was quickly checked in by a trainee. I was not addressed by name, but everything was explained and I was offered the usual choice of breakfast vouchers, points, etc. I choose the breakfast voucher. I got a sign for the dashboard of my rental that the parking fee was charged to my room and that I had not to pay for it while leaving the hotel during my stay.

The room was in the typically shape of a hotel room. You enter the room and stand right in the room. The bathroom was on the left side and was really small. It had a bath, toilet and sink and everything was very narrow, but renovated and in a really good shape. Bathroom amenities by Crabtree & Evelyne were available, three big and three small towels were hanging on the rack but I missed the medium sized ones. Bathrobes were available in the closet in the room. The showerhead was okay, but the water pressure could have been a bit stronger. Amenities were refilled daily and the three towels were changed daily.

The room was of medium size with two single beds on the left side and a bedside table between them. The Hilton Signature Alarm clock (with CD Player) and a lamp were placed on the bedside table. The beds had three halogen sports over them which feature as reading lamps. Opposite the bed was the TV on a sideboard with another board on the left side, where a cooler could be placed on request. The desk was placed near the window. A reading lamp was available as well as a cordless phone and the wireless LAN connection. The chair at the desk was a ergonomic one.

The air condition was controlled electronically and worked nearly without any draught. The sound proofed windows could be opened. In front of the window was a lounge chair and in the corner another reading lamp.

The bed was too soft for my taste and again I ask myself why a guest need four pillows?

Ironing board and iron could be found in the closet.

LAN / W-LAN were available for a fee (9.95 USD until noon the same day / 12.95 USD for 24 hours / 19.95 EUR for the entire stay).

Breakfast was okay, the service of an average attentiveness.

Overall a nice hotel and the rate was okay. Everything could be reached easily by car and the access to the main road is quite good. I will consider this hotel for a stay, esp. if I have a car. However if I am only going to Miami or Fort Lauderdale I will think about a more centrally located hotel. Unfortunately public transportation is not very good and therefore you need in the most cases a (rental) car.
