Trip Index Flights Phnom Penh

After my first visit to Cambodia back in 2001, I decided in autumn 2003 to travel to Cambodia again and visit my friends, who live in Cambodia. This time it should be only a short trip of a week without a sidetrip to Bangkok or Singapore. We – my friends in Cambodia, a friend, who traveled to PNH out of RGN, and me – decided to meet in early January in PNH.

I booked the ticket FRA – BKK – PNH – BKK – FRA through Royal Orchid Reiseservice in Alzenau. I made inquires at several travel agents but they had the best offer (922,00 EUR), but were expensive for the segment DUS – FRA (179,00 EUR), so I decided to book this myself and try to get an 92,00 EUR fare, which was possible through Start. Maybe I paid too much, but I was focused on special dates (see above) and a little late in planning this trip in October, so that I had not much opportunities for better fares and did not want to wait much longer, so gambling was not possible and I was using my miles for another trip, so this was not an option as well.

In the end I could only arrive on January 13th, which was a pity, because I could not accompany them to a project outside of Phnom Penh

To sum up the flights experience, the service of Lufthansa in Economy on domestic flights is in comparison to Thai worse (but that is nothing new). The service of Thai is okay, but it also depends on the crew. For me the flight is a good as the crew is. The In-flight entertainment of Thai is not up to date and in my eyes the Asian competitors of Thai offer a much better product and Thai is in the strong need to update the Economy cabins on international flights.

On the other side on short haul flights, I would vote the service of Thai over this of e.g. Silk Air. The food tastes better and the portions are larger. The service is in my eyes at least as good as the service of the competitors and at least I do not care that much about the inflight entertainment system on short hops

I will fly Thai again, if it is not possible to fly on Singapore Airlines (also a question of the fare, I have to pay and remember, not every fare in SQ earns miles)

As I stayed with friends in Phnom Penh, I did not need a hotel. In Phnom Penh a lot since has changed since my last visit in 2001. I am always amazed and impressed how fast countries are developing if investors on the one hand and tourists on the other hand have discovered a country.
