Phoenix Sky Harbor International

I used the United Premier Check-In at Phoenix. It took some time, but the agent was able to issue both boarding passes, the one for the flight from Phoenix to Los Angeles and also for this from Los Angeles to Sydney.

Security in Phoenix took also some time. The same procedure as at every other airport, shoes, belt needed to be put off and the laptop out of the carry on, but first a crew were allowed to cut the line and the elder couple in front of me had some problems in understanding what to do. I passed security after a wait of approximately 10 minutes and headed off for the Red Carpet Club.

I was a bit surprised to find it empty. Snacks (vegetables, cracker, cheese and cookies) and soft drinks were available for free. Also you got a good view on the tarmac and seeing planes starting and landing at the two runways of Phoenix Airport. The lounge attendant was friendly, she noticed my birthday and wished me all the best. I asked for Seat in Economy Plus, but only middle seats were available but she would look every now and then and see any changes. Roughly 45 minutes later, she came to me and got me a window seat at the exit row of the first row of Economy Plus "as birthday present". I do not know, how she managed to get it, but it was very nice and much appreciated.

Boarding was announced to start at 16:51 and therefore I left the lounge at 16:45. Boarding hat not yet started as I arrived at the gate a few minutes later, but soon began at 16:55.

I was the second person to board the plane and put my carry on under the seat in front of me, as it did not fit in the somewhat small overhead bin of this Canadair Jet.

Boarding was fast, hand luggage was collected before boarding the plane . The plane was fully booked.

We pushed back at 17:11 while the flight attendant made the safety announcement and afterwards demonstrated the handling of belt and oxygen mask.

Wheels of our CRJ 200 were in the air at 17:17. We flew over Phoenix Airport but I got not the direction as my seat neighbour had lowered the window shade and therefore I was not able to see where we were flying.

As the seat belt sign were switched off, the flight attendant jumped in action and announced starting of beverage service in a few minutes.

Beverage service was accompanied by a small packet of this nice little cracker in form of a plane. I opted for a Pepsi, this time I got the whole can. Again beverage service was started in the back of the plane.
The flight was okay and nothing to report about. It dozed a bit and soon we began our final approach into Los Angeles Airport.

We touched down at 18:32 and had to taxi from the northern runway to the Terminal 8 which took some time and we finally arrived at Gate 80 at 18:38.
