Frankfurt Rhein-Main

I headed for the Senator Lounge at Gate A 24 and signed the shower list and got me something to drink and for a quick breakfast. As usual at this time of the day, the lounge was crowded and it was a bit difficult to find a seat.

I was lucky and was able to take a shower since some other passengers had to leave prior it was their turn for a shower.

After the shower I headed back in the lounge and read a bit in the paper, drank an espresso and some more water and waited for the boarding time of my connecting flight to Düsseldorf. Around boarding time I went for the gate A 23 where our flight to Düsseldorf was waiting for us.

The self check in facilities were in use, but my boarding pass failed and so I had to join the lines. Soon later I was on my way to the plane soon later

27 April 2009
FRA – DUS
[Frankfurt – Düsseldorf]
LH 802 (Lufthansa); Airbus A 320 (D-AIQL / 'Stralsund')
Gate A 21
09:05 – 09:50 [effective 09:14 – 09:56]
Economy Class
Seat 15 D

Greeted by two flight attendants I went to the area behind the curtain, where my seat was located and stored my belongings in the overhead compartment. The place at the window was already taken and the middle seat was taken later by a member of the crew for the flight Düsseldorf – Chicago.

The plane was full and we were pushed back for our short hop to Düsseldorf. The flight to Düsseldorf was uneventful and as usual without any form of service in the back of the cabin. It was a bit bumpy during our final approach into Düsseldorf and we landed at and arrived at our gate at 09:56.

Deboarding took a couple of minutes due to some disorganised people in the front part of the Economy Class Cabin, but I was able to reach the last possible Skytrain connection the terminal with the airport train station to catch my train. Less than 15 minutes after the arrivial at the gate I was on the platform of the train station for long distance trains – not bad.

My overall impression after comparing the longhaul flights in Economy on Swiss and Lufthansa, my vote goes to Swiss. The service and the entertainment system was also better. However, this might be seen different, if one is travelling on a Lufthansa plane with the in seat entertainment system and has other preferences than me. The food of LX was also slightly better than the one on LH . I really ask myself, why I have not tried LX earlier, but that might be just depending on the timetable, since one has usually better options on LH to the destinations in the US and Asia I have had to travel to in the past. If I have a choice in the future, I might tend to book LX again.
