Conclusion

Having flown this flight three times since the launch of the Zurich to Singapore service in May 2013, I can say, that the service on board of Swiss is usually better than on Lufthansa flights. I have experience an outstanding service on the flight from Zurich to Singapore, but this was due to the fact that I was sitting next to a Hon Circle Member, who was pampered by the crew and they pampered me as well. On other flights I had the usual service, which did not always include a personal welcome by the maître de cabine. But in general the crew was nice and friendly. In Business Class, the service was good but certainly not outstanding. I have experienced many better crews on Lufthansa by Munich based crew. The ones from Frankfurt were mostly not as good as their colleagues from Munich. I would rate the Swiss crew between Munich and Frankfurt based Lufthansa crews. What I like flying Swiss is that the service starts much earlier than on Lufthansa. I do not need the aperitif service as done by Lufthansa and the long duration of the dinner service, which could take up to three hours inflight is also less optimal if you prefer to sleep.

The seat is also better than the now old Business Class seat of Lufthansa and I like it, though the seats are quite narrow and not everybody is liking it. The seat could offer more place to safely store things, but this aside, I prefer this over Lufthansa and even about the flight in Business Class in BA, simply because I like the higher side at the top of the seat, a little bit like a cocoon.

I will sample a few other seats this year (among those Cathay Pacific, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines) and try to see how they compare, but I would already say that SQ is playing – or better flying – in a different league.

Food was good, the beef a bit dry, but this is not uncommon for airline food. The presentation was average, not individually served but using the tray with cutlery and napkin. The wine selection was good – I still like that Swiss offers at least one wine from Switzerland both in Economy and Business Class.

In Economy Class, the seats as well as the inflight entertainment system are better than on Lufthansa, but the new Lufthansa System has improved. Personally I find the selection on Swiss to be more the one I like, but this is certainly a very subjective impression. I also like the color scheme on Swiss better than the one of Lufthansa – also a very subjective thing.

I have soon to discover how other non Star Alliance Airlines like British Airways will be in Economy Class. Something to put on the agenda for the next year(s).

Overall it was a nice flight to one of my favorite destinations in South East Asia with the airline I like most in the Lufthansa Family.
