My upgrade to Business Class had cleared 48 hours before the flight departed. After all this flights in First Class probably not bad way to fly back in business class and get some soft landing back in reality.

I arrived at the airport two hours before the flight left and headed to the Business Class counter. This counter was empty while at first class and Star Gold counters two people were queuing. Check in was fast and my luggage was checked all the way to Düsseldorf. After the upgrade had cleared, an exit row seat in business class was requested and I got it at check-in. I got also a voucher for the fast lane at immigration at Kuala Lumpur but did not use it, because the lines were empty.

Security was also fast and there was no need to take the laptop out of my carry on. I took the train to the satellite terminal where my flight left and headed to the TG lounge. It's the only lounge available, since SQ's lounge is only for first class passengers or their own top tier members. I could have also used the Premium Plaza Lounge as this is a Priority Pass Lounge, but I decided against it.

The TG lounge was full and the lounge chairs were dirty and the lounge in general not in a very good shape. International Newspapers were not available and the selection of food was basic. Nothing to worry because I only had 45 minutes in the lounge before it was boarding time.

I left the lounge at boarding time and headed down to the gate where the flight to Bangkok left.

There was an additional security and boarding pass check right at the gate. It took me only a minute to pass it. No separate lines for First / Business Class and Economy Class, though.

Down the jetway and turn left at the first entrance right into the business class cabin.

Business Class
Seat 09 C

My seat was right at the entrance and it was the first time for me in the new business class of Lufthansa. I was greeted by a flight attendant. I stored my belongings in the overhead bin and handled my jacket to one of the flight attendants. She stood beside me but did not offer to take my jacket. Welcome back in reality of LH's understanding of service. At least I got a predeparture drink offered and menus were distributed on the ground. Headphones were placed in the compartment as was the amenity kit.

The safety video was shown and I began to explore the seat. I looked for the headphones since I wanted to know if I can plug my own headphones but was told this was not possible. I think it was but somehow complicated and difficult to reach the plug.

The load of this flight was very low, I think less than 30 percent of the seats in Business Class were taken and also the rest of the plane was empty.

We pushed back right in time at 21:25 and were airborne ten minutes later.

App. thirty minutes after we left Kuala Lumpur the light meal service began. We were asked for our choice of aperitif and I ordered a glass of Campari Orange and got it together with a packet of assorted nuts. Tray tables were laid with linen but that was it. No fork and knife, they arrive together with the meal on the tray, at least it was metal cutlery.

The menu of this short hop was in the menu

Though all courses were served on a single tray, food was not bad. I had the Marinated Chicken which was not that bad, though I thought the chicken was a bit to try, but this might be my personal impression. I had a glass of the Californian white wine and some mineral water.

The meal service took app. 40 minutes before our tables were cleared and I skipped through the audio selection. Soon later we began our approach into Bangkok. During the approach I chatted a bit with the flight attendant on the jump seat opposite my seat. The crew did only this short round to KUL from BKK and had another two days in BKK before the fly back to FRA.

We touched down at BKK at 22:25 and reached our gate at 22:30. We were told to be back at 23:20 for boarding time. All passengers, who continued on this flight to FRA got a transfer card.
